After a dramatic day of counting, a 12% swing from the Conservatives to the Greens saw Keith Welham, the Green District Councillor for Haughley, Stowupland and Wetherden, defeat the incumbent Conservative councillor, Gary Green by 139 votes. The full result was as follows;
- Keith Welham (Green) - 1,512 votes (45.6%)
- Gary Green (Conservative) - 1,373 votes (41.4%)
- Will Howman (Labour) - 433 votes (13.0%)
Chair of the Parish Council, Mark Valladares, asked for a comment, remarked;
I'd like to thank Gary for his service to the community for more than a decade. As for Keith, we worked together effectively when he represented the Parish on Mid Suffolk District Council, and I'm confident that he'll work with us on our key projects over the next four years.
As for the Police and Crime Commissioner election, the incumbent (and only person ever to hold the post), Tim Passmore, was comfortably re-elected on first preferences. The full result was as follows;
- Tim Passmore (Conservative) - 112,139 votes (54.7%)
- Elizabeth Hughes (Labour) - 47,159 votes (23%)
- Andy Patmore (Green) - 27,965 votes (13.6%)
- James Sandbach (Liberal Democrat) - 17,801 votes (8.7%)
